My idea was that the comparatively lighter background would pull the background closer, rather than having an open, distant background. More how we can't see far at night. But the dark ground then fights this. Let me switch the color of the sky with the color of the ground to see what the effect is. I'll add it to the post here soon. Thats an interesting effect.
